The talent of Hilton Head Island’s local architects was showcased last month at the Hilton Head Island section of the American Institute of Architects bi-annual Awards Gala. Forty people were in attendance as awards we’re presented for design excellence in new construction, renovation, and unbuilt architecture. Twelve architects from ten firms submitted 34 projects across 5 award categories. NC State professor Mark Harmon, FAIA and SCAD professor Carole Pacheco, AIA recognized five submissions with Merit Awards and granted the coveted Honor Award to Tom Parker, AIA for his redevelopment of a Sea Pines townhome. The judges noted that Parker Design Groups work provided a “harmonic balance in response to client’s spatial requirements and the need to remain in context with the existing scale of 1970’s townhouses [in Sea Pines]”.
